New Starts Sunday
jonathan Wed, 31/08/2022 - 10:41
You are invited to our New Starts Sunday at 10am on Sunday 4th September. Ready for the start of the new school year, we'll be praying for all people facing 'new starts' in life, and 'blessing the backpacks' (or briefcases or book bags ...). There will be something to make and take away, for those who want to.

Sermon summary 25 Feb 2018
Aidan Wed, 28/02/2018 - 11:49
Last Sunday we studied the passage of Ephesians 2:v1-10 taking a brief tour of the heights of God's grace in Jesus' death and resurrection.
The passage emphasizes the futility of trying to attain our own salvation by comparing us to a corpse and reveals the incredible worth that God gives us demonstrated in our new position in the heavens.
It is from this position that we have been given good works to do, not to repay God, but now we are no longer 'dead' we are able to do them!

Chaplaincy - The New Frontline Mission
Skychaplain Mon, 02/03/2015 - 12:07
Christian Ministers sometimes ask themselves how relevant, how connected, their ministry (and that of their church) is. At least I did, as a church-based minister - and still feel this question is important, as the world changes fast and the Church seeks to catch up, and maintain a missional and evangelistic edge.

A loud A-Men
herb payne Tue, 08/07/2014 - 20:42
After a break of over 40 years, The A-Men are getting back together to perform a set of vintage gospel pop songs at Café Vivo in Basingstoke on 3rd August. Not to be missed, probably never to be repeated...

Ascension - a neglected day, or a wonderful day?
Skychaplain Wed, 28/05/2014 - 16:11
Ascension Day (celebrated tomorrow as I write this), is always on a Thursday. At Junior School, it stood out for me (being at a C of E school) as a day for a compulsory service at the Parish Church, which I quite enjoyed, and then a day off school (which I enjoyed even more....!)

Encouraging dialogue
herb payne Thu, 06/03/2014 - 12:22
Would you like to take part in on-line discussions and comment on blogs, sermons and other posts on this site?
Perhaps you have a passion for something and would like to share your views by blogging yourself? This is specially relevant if you are involved in activities that you would really like us all to know about and help support you in. It doesn't necessarily have to be "spiritual".
We would love to encourage dialogue that is relevant, positive and uplifting.

Introduction
Skychaplain Wed, 26/02/2014 - 10:53
Hello Everyone,
My name is Michael Banfield, my wife is Linda, and you will sometimes also see our grandchildren Jericho and Rose with us at Christ Church. We've recently joined the church as Baptist members, as we have previously been life-long Baptists. I'm actually a recently-retired ordained Baptist minister, and my last "church" was London Luton Airport (!), where I was full-time Senior Chaplain for eighteen years, ministering to people of all faiths and none, and leading a volunteer team of ten part-time chaplains.

Was a Hawker Hunter good in a dog-fight?
herb payne Fri, 01/02/2013 - 14:12
You know what it's like. You pluck up the courage to ask. You are completely taken aback when they say “yes”. You are dizzy with dis-belief when they still want to come and are ready when you pick them up. You arrive and, horror of horrors, everyone there has suddenly gone “weird” - religious weird. The guys refuse to communicate normally and in everyday English. The promised breakfast is pathetic and there's an awkward hush. To top it all the advertised subject has warped beyond recognition and the speaker drones on in a soporific monologue. You're so relieved when it's all over, you apologise, shake hands and shuffle home thoroughly embarrassed.
The Men's Breakfast on Saturday 26th January was not like that at all!
