We live in a world where we are taught to be suspicious of people and of any authority they claim. I was listening to the radio in the week and hearing that there is now another scam whereby people are trying to get access to people’s bank accounts either by phone calls or even sending a messenger to ask for your bank card. We rightly ask by what authority?

...often the accusation against God is that he doesn’t care – usually on the back of the fact that he hasn’t given us what we want be it health or wealth or whatever. Again as we think of those original readers, they may well have been wondering why doesn’t Jesus just deal with this Roman emperor? Where is God for those who are in prison? When things are bad and God doesn’t answer our prayers the way we want the question comes Jesus don’t you care?”

Jesus still calls people today. He calls those who are not yet followers to come and follow him. Why should we do that? Because of what we hear from Jesus telling us of his love for us, what we hear about Jesus, who he is, his nature as God and because of what he has done, not just the great miracles but his death on the cross. If you are here today and have not accepted that call or if you are listening to this on download and are yet to start following Jesus let me encourage you to hear his call today and respond with a yes.

These words of God through Hosea show us that God is a Holy God, totally and implacably opposed to sin. We must not think that it does not matter how we live our lives. It does. But even though we do sin and will sin we can find forgiveness through the death of Jesus. However, we must act to ensure that sin does not become ingrained and habitual in us taking our heart away from God.
